Delhi Court awards life imprisonment to five JeM operatives ‘Accused also involved in enticing locals of J&K to join terrorism

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday awarded life imprisonment to five terrorists of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) for recruiting and training youths for terror activities across the country.
Special Judge Shailender Malik awarded the jail term to Sajad Ahmad Khan alias Sajjad Ahmed Khan alias Sajjad Ahmad Khan alias Sajjad, son of Ghulam Nabi Khan, resident of Village – Handoora, Distt- Pulwama, J&K convicted for life imprisonment, RI and fine under section 121 A, 120B IPC, 18, 18B, 38, 39 UA (P) Act and 120B IPC r/w sections 4, 5 of Explosives Substances Act; Bilal Ahmad Mir alias Bilal Mir alias Billa, son of Farooq Ahmad Mir, resident of Village Gadpora, District -Pulwama, J&K convicted for life imprisonment, RI and fine under section 121 A, 120 B IPC, 18, 38, 39 UA (P) Act and 120B IPC r/w sections 4, 5 of Explosives Substances Act; Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat alias Muzaffar Bhat, son of Abdul Ganie Bhat, resident of Village Monghama, Tehsil- Tral, District- Pulwama, J & K convicted for life imprisonment, RI and fine under sections 121 A, 122, 120 B IPC, 18, 23, 38, 39 UA (P) Act and section 4 of Explosives Substances Act; Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat alias Ishfaq Bhatt alias Ishfaq, son of Abdul Mazid Bhat, resident of Khalpora, Marhama, Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir convicted for life imprisonment, RI and fine u/s 121 A, 120 B IPC, 18, 19, 38, 39 UA (P) Act and Mehraj-Ud-din Chopan alias Mehraj, son of Late Ghulam Rasool Chopan, resident of Vill. Handoora, Pulwama convicted for life imprisonment, RI and fine under section 121 A, 120 B IPC, 18, 38, 39 UA (P) Act and sections 4, 5 of Explosives Substances Act after they pleaded guilty in the case.
The judge also awarded a five-year jail term to Tanveer Ahmed Ganie alias Tanveer Ahmad alias Tanveer, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Ganie, resident of Village- Mandoora, District -Pulwama, J & K convicted with RI for 5 years and fine under sections 120B IPC, 18, 38 UA (P) Act.
The judge noted that all the convicts were in conspiracy with each other to wage war against India.
It said the convicts were “not only members of
JeM but they have been supporting/harbouring terrorists/members of JeM by providing them arms/ammunition, logistic supports and explosives.”
“The accused were also involved in enticing/ motivating locals of Jammu & Kashmir to go into militancy and arranging funds, etc. for carrying out terrorist acts and therefore they all are liable to be convicted for offence u/s 120B IPC as well as u/s 18 of UA(P)Act,” the judge said.
The NIA lodged an FIR in March 2019 and started the investigation.
The probe agency said the convicts were trained by Pakistan-based JeM operatives to do reconnaissance of targets, arrange hideouts, and provide logistical support to terrorists and to carry out terror attacks in India.
