JAMMU: Principal, Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu on Saturday called for explanation from Dr Showkat Choudhary to explain within three days why the endoscopy machine was not functioning for the past six months when it was under his control at Super Specialty Hospital, Jammu.
STATE TIMES in its edition under caption “GMC performs 54 endoscopies in 3 days, Demand for probe against Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Dr Showkat gains momentum” dated May 1, 2015 had stated that 54 tests were conducted in three days while the machine was lying defunct in SSH for the past 6 months
In case of failing to explain his position, it will be presumed Dr Showkat Choudhary has nothing to say in his defence and, therefore, ‘action as warranted under rules in vogue will be initiated against him’.
According to the Principal, the endoscopy machine has conducted 142 cases satisfactorily within a month in Govt. Medical College Hospital after being shifted from Super Specialty Hospital, without any repair. “The needy patients are getting hassle free facility of such vital machinery”, the Principal claimed.
When contacted Dr Showkat Choudhry said, “We conduct surgeries with this endoscopy machine and it is old and unsafe. Moreover, there was no back up. The engineers of the manufacturing company had also given us in writing that this machine has almost lived its life. Its working cannot be trusted fully.”
“I have not received any explanation letter, he said, adding,” If I receive I will reply accordingly.”
