JAMMU: Keeping in view large scale theft of electricity, the Power Development Department has decided to take stern action against illegal power connections besides imposing huge penalties on defaulters.
As per Chief Engineer Distribution, JPDCL Jammu, Gurmeet Singh, there are many consumers, who are using ACs and heaters illegally, bye-passing electric meters as well as through unregistered connections. With such heavy usage, average bill of a consumer should come not less than Rs 10,000 per month but it is surprising that consumers pay only Rs 200 to Rs 300 approx per month using illegal means, he added. He further said that during installation of smart meters, anybody found involved in such illegal activities will be penalised accordingly.
