The Mela Khir Bhawani day has been declared a ‘restricted holiday for Kashmir province’. This holiday is on account of Mela Khir Bhawani which is celebrated mainly by Kashmiri Pandits who predominantly live at Jammu after their mass exodus from Kashmir in the early nineties.
Therefore Mela Khir Bhawani day should be declared as a ‘restricted holiday for Jammu province’ and not for Kashmir province until majority of Kashmiri Pandits live here.
Therefore, we request the State Govt. to immediately declare the day as a restricted holiday for Jammu province so that Pandits can celebrate the day with the same fervour and traditional gaiety as before till they return to the Valley. So we request the GAD and the Govt. to understand the purpose of the holiday and declare it as restricted holiday for Jammu province with immediate effect for the happiness of the employees and the children of the community at large.
