Death due to negligence; Villagers protest against SDH authorities, MLA

AKHNOOR: Parents, relatives and the villagers of Muthi Maira held a protest against the authorities of Sub District Hospital (SDH) Akhnoor and MLA Akhnoor holding them responsible for the death of a boy in a snake-bite case.
A 14 years boy namely Akhil Singh, son of Dayal Singh, resident of Muthi Maira, suffered a snake bite and was immediately shifted to SDH Akhnoor for treatment. The doctors in the hospital without providing any first aid to the boy, referred him to GMC Hospital Jammu but due to time lag the boy expired enroute Jammu. His parents and relatives brought him back and kept his body near Nirdosh Chowk and blocked the road alleging that doctors negligence was responsible for his death.
They alleged that availability of treatment and required medicines in the hospital was the responsibility of the Hospital Authorities and MLA of the constituency.
Immediately on receipt of information regarding blockage of road, SDPO Akhnoor Munish Anand and SHO Pushpinder Singh Jamwal reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters but to no avail. Meanwhile, SDM Akhnoor Sunaina Sharma also reached the spot and interacted with them. The protesters said that stern action should be taken against the hospital authorities and the family which is very poor and had great hopes on their son, be given employment to one of their members.
The SDM expressing her sympathies with the family assured them that she will discuss the case with the higher authorities within two days. On her assurance the protesters lifted Dharna.
