DDC inspects restoration works in flood affected border areas
KATHUA: District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal conducted tour of flood affected border areas to inspect the ongoing restoration works and assess the relief distribution. He inspected works at Chak Chhabe, Salalpur, Haryachak, Kote Punnu and Banyari areas of Hiranagar Sub-Divisions and interacted with local deputations regarding relief and reconstruction in the area.
SDM Hiranagar Sohan Lal, XEn Irrigation and Flood Control, XEn PWD, Tehsildar Marheen, BDO Marheen and other officers accompanied the DDC for inspection of various spots. A number deputations apprised the DDC about losses inflicted during recent floods wherein a number of houses have been damaged, crops lost and protection Bunds along Ujjh River completely washed away.
The DDC directed Flood Control, Revenue and Rural Development Departments for expediting the restoration works and also announced release of funds for demands projected by public especially repair of damaged roads, school buildings and irrigation facilities. He asked the departments to involve Panchayats actively in the restoration works.
A relief camp established by the district administration at Rajabh has also been wound up and families shifted to respective houses. Team of officers also visited the affected families and enquired about adequate supply of ration and provision of essentials.
Inspection of roads being constructed by BRO, PWD and RRD was also conducted during the spot inspection and timeline fixed for immediate repair and renovation of the roads. The DDC also inspected various schools and Anganwadi Centres in the area.
SDM Hiranagar and Tehsildar Hiranagar have been provided funds for immediate relief to families which have lost houses, crop or land in the recent floods. The DDC directed for organising camps in left out areas for relief disbursal.
