DDC inaugurates Kissan Mela

DODA: A two day Kissan Mela-cum- Horticulture Expo was on Wednesday inaugurated by District Development Commissioner Doda Shyam Vinod Meena at Town Hall Doda.
The event was attended by farmers, representatives of PRIs, Agriculture Scientists, Horticulture and Agricultural Experts, Officers and School Children.
After inspecting the fruit exhibits in different stalls displayed by progressive farmers and orchardists, the DDC said that the farmers can switch over to the production of fruits, vegetables, flowers and cash crops from conventional farming to get good economic returns.
He directed the officers of Agriculture, Horticulture and Floriculture Department to submit a detailed plan of various schemes and activities which can be undertaken for the benefit of farmers in this area. He also directed them to galvanize their efforts to create a single window system for the speedy disposal of various cases of farmers under different schemes of their departments. Besides, he stressed upon the personal visits by the officers of concerned departments to the orchards and fields for proper counseling, guidance and confidence building among the farmers and the officers.
DDC also interacted with the farmers and listened to their demands which include marketing facility in the District, Transport Facility for transportation of farm products, Cold storage system and recognition and encouragement of progressive farmers.
DDC exhorted upon the farmers to form farmers club and start their own cold storage facility and food processing plants and assured them all help from the district administration in this regard.
Regarding recognition of progressive farmers, DDC directed the Officers of Horticulture and Agriculture Department to prepare a list of progressive farmers at Panchayat and Block levels for awarding them. He also instructed them to upload list of progressive farmers on the District Web Site.
The DDC impressed upon the officers to prepare pamphlets and posters in Urdu, Hindi and other local languages highlighting the benefits of various schemes, the cost and subsidy on various implements being supplied to the farmers by the department.
SDM Bhadarwah Bhupinder Kumar, Chief Horticulture Officer Doda, Chief Agriculture Officer Doda, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Doda, Major 10 RR Doda among other District Officers attended the show.
