DC meets bankers, calls for taking measures to tackle heavy rush

KATHUA: In view of demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, District Development Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar convened a meeting of bankers to ensure smooth flow of exchange of currencies and withdrawals in the banks to deal with the flow of huge crowd.
The DDC asked banks to tighten their security expecting huge footfall and advised for opening a separate counter to establish to address people’s queries. He also called for educating people visiting banks to prevent them from any panicking.
ATMs and banks both must be sufficiently secured as people would thronging the booths and counters to deposit Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes or exchange them for new notes or others currency, DDC said. He directed the banks to put in place workforce to address immediate queries of citizens. It’s important for all banks to sincerely refill the ATMs from time to time for people’s convenience.
DDC also impressed upon the officers of different departments to educate people of their respective areas that they have ample time and need not to panic as the currency of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 can be exchanged at banks and post offices till December 30th 2016.
Meanwhile, to spread awareness among people, flexes would be put up in front of banks informing people about the process which would prevent confusion and people shall have peaceful exchange of money experience.
DDC said proper police as well as private security guards shall be deployed at each ATM and branch of banks to ensure peaceful exchange of money is done.
DDC informed that similar directions were issued to SDM’s/ Tehsildar’s for coordination with banks, awareness and monitoring of the situation to avoid any chaos at banks and ATM’s.
