DB asks Div Comm Jammu to file status report on pollution

JAMMU: In a Public Interest Litigation filed by Advocate Sanjeet Kumar seeking pollution free environment in J and K State, a Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice M.M Kumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan observed that in the order dated 10th September, 2014, a status report has been filed on 10th October, 2014. It only highlights the status of land identified for land fill site at Udhampur. According to the status report, the requisite sanction from the Government which is prerequisite is awaited.

In respect of other towns, no status has been filed although, detailed reference has been made in various order dated 10th September, 2014. According to the report filed before this Court by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, various steps were taken to identify and acquire the land in different towns and municipalities of Jammu Division for the purposes of setting up of land fill site for disposal of municipal waste in accordance with the Provisions of Municipal Solid Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000.

Division Bench directed Divisional Commissioner to file status report in respect of rest of the areas including Udhampur by drawing a road map to complete the acquisition process. JNF
