Darshan Kaur’s demise condoled

JAMMU: Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) on Friday condoled the demise of a renowned Punjabi writer, poet and social activist Darshan Kaur.
Paying tribute to Darshan Kaur, Haroon Rashid Secretary JKAACL dwelt on the contributions made by Darshan Kaur in the field of Punjabi Literature in particular and the literature being written in Jammu region in general. He said that she was one of regular visitors of JKAACL and was keen to take part in literary activities related to the promotion and development of languages and culture of the region. She was 76 years old. She authored ‘Atharvien Sadi De Bahadur Khalsa Jernail’.
Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary while paying tribute to the deceased said that Darshan Kaur was committed to work for the social reforms. Being a social activist, she took active part for women empowerment, uplift of downtrodden section of the society and to bring awareness among the youth about drug addiction. He further told that she was a multi-faceted personality and being a Teacher, she was felicitated with Best Teacher Award for the year 1973 by the then President of India.
Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, senior Drama Instructor, Dr. Javed Rahi, Chief Editor Gojri, Farooq Anwar Mirza, Dr. Shahnawaz, Editor Gojri, Chief Editor Pahari, Azra Choudhary, Editor Hindi, Ashok Gupta, Editor Dogri, Popinder Singh, Editor Punjabi and Virender Koul, Publication Officer also spoke on the occasion and paid their rich tributes to Darshan Kaur.
