SRINAGAR: Curfew was reimposed on Friday in many parts of Kashmir including Srinagar as a precautionary measure ahead of Friday prayer congregations even as normal life remained paralysed in the Valley for the 56th day, while several areas of old Doda district in Jammu region observed a partial bandh in the wake of a protest call given by some religious organisations.
“Curfew has been imposed in entire Srinagar district and some other towns of the Valley as a precautionary measure,” a police official said.
He said other towns where curfew was imposed included Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Baramulla and Pattan.
“Restrictions on assembly of people have been imposed in rest of the Valley due to apprehensions of violence after Friday prayers,” the official said.
Meanwhile, several areas of old Doda district in Jammu region on Friday observed a partial bandh in the wake of a protest call given by some religious organisations.
The shutdown call was given by Anjuman-e-Isalamia Bhaderwah, Anjuman-e-Islamia Gandoh and Majlis-e-Shoura Kishtwar.
Curfew was lifted in most parts of Kashmir from Monday and it was completely withdrawn two days ago.
The Valley has been hit by violent protests following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on July 8.
The separatists have extended the shutdown programme till September 8 and have asked people to occupy the Srinagar Airport road on September 3 and 4, when Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to lead an all-party delegation to the Valley.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said 35 incidents of stone pelting were reported from various parts of the Valley, including some curfew-bound areas of Srinagar, Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Baramulla districts, after Friday prayers.
“Thirty-five incidents of stone pelting were reported from various areas of Srinagar, Sopore, Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Baramulla, Bandipora, Kulgam and Kupwara after Friday prayers,” the spokesman said.
He said protesters assembled on the roads and pelted stones at police and security force deployments but there was no report of any casualty in the ensuing clashes. Besides stone-pelting incidents, the spokesman said some unknown persons set ablaze a Vocational Training Centre at Watergam near Dangiwacha in Sopore area of Baramulla district, resulting in complete damage to the structure. Police have registered a case and started investigation, the spokesman said.
