CUJ hosts Inter-Collegiate Volleyball (Men) Tournament

JAMMU: The Cluster University of Jammu (CUJ) organized the Inter-Collegiate Volleyball (Men) Tournament at SPMR College of Commerce on Tuesday. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from various constituent colleges and was conducted successfully on the college campus.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Raj Daluja, Editor-in-Chief of State Times. He has been associated with the J&K Volleyball Association as its President for the past forty years, during which the volleyball in the state has risen to new heights. Principal SPMR College of Commerce, Prof. Romesh Kumar Gupta, attended the event as the Guest of Honour, while Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Director, Physical Education and Sports, was the Special Guest.
In his address, Principal Prof. Romesh Kumar Gupta encouraged students to actively participate in games and sports. He highlighted that India has a large youth population and stressed that if the youth engage in sports, society can effectively combat the growing menace of drug abuse.
A memento was presented to the Chief Guest by the Principal of SPMR College of Commerce, and Dr. Vinod Bakshi offered a bouquet as a mark of respect and appreciation.
The tournament began with the first match played between GGM Science College and SPMR College of Commerce, in which GGM Science College defeated SPMR College by 3-1, with set scores of 25-13, 25-22, 17-25, and 25-20. The final match was contested between GGM Science College and MAM College, where MAM College emerged victorious with a 3-1 win, scoring 26-24, 18-25, 26-24, and 25-21 to become the champions.
Chandan Dev Singh of GGM Science College was declared the Best Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performance throughout the matches. The games were officiated by Amit Sharma, Parvinder Singh, and Mulkh Raj Sharma.
Veteran volleyball players Kuldeep Magotra, Ramesh Sharma, and S. H.S. Gill were also present on the occasion and were acknowledged for their remarkable contributions to the sport.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Ravi, Physical Director (Sports), SPMR College of Commerce, who expressed gratitude to all guests, participants, and organizers for making the tournament a success.
