JAMMU: Maintaining that cross-border terrorism, supported by Pakistan, is the root cause of turbulence in the Valley, MLA Kathua Rajiv Jasrotia on Tuesday sought support from all political parties in the fight against terrorism.
He said that there is an immediate need that we come together and join hands to counter terrorism. The government needs constructive support of all Opposition parties to deal with this menace of terrorism with a heavy hand, he added.
Raising the issue of frequent cross-border firing along the border, Jasrotia sought clarification from the government regarding quantum of medical aid that has been approved for the people living in border areas of the State.
The government should frame clear cut rules related to the quantum of assistance being provided for loss of human lives during cross-border firing, injuries, demages to houses, loss of cattle, destruction of standing crops and granaries, he stressed.
He demanded that plots measuring five marlas should be given to firing-affected families in ‘safer zones’, shelters should be constructed in vulnerable areas on the borders and parity should be established in ex-gratia given to victims of cross-border firing and terror attacks.
Special Recruitment Drive should be started in J&K Police and other belt forces for the border residents, he said, adding that, families of the cross-border firing victims should be given benefit under SRO-43.
Highlighting the issues of Displaced Persons (DPs), Jasrotia said that some of their issues including updating of records, registration of left out families, ownership rights, reservation of their wards for getting admission in government institutions and according backward status to them should be addressed on priority.
He further said the unemployed educated PoK refugees should be given interest-free loans so that they can establish their businesses and stand on their feet. They should also be provided with all civic amenities and health services, he added.
