JAMMU: The adage that crime never goes undetected proved right when Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday found the missing record of the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu pertaining to the year 1981 during raid on the residence of Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal, facing charges of tampering in her date of birth. The recovery of the documents exposed all her claims of innocence.
The CB sleuths during searches in the residence of Dr Sudhan at Bakshi Nagar were shocked to trace all the documents which they had actually sought from the GMC administration, soon after lodging of complaint against tampering of date of birth by the incumbent Principal. However, the officials had told the CB investigators that the records being very old dating back prior to 1990 were not available in the GMC records. The CB sleuths are scrutinizing the other documents seized during the raids.
On Thursday, the Crime Branch sleuths led by senior officers including the Investigation Officer DySP Baghwan Dass Dandia had simultaneously raided the residence and office of Dr Sharma. She was present in her office when the Crime Branch officials raided the office. Another team conducted a raid at her residence in Bakshi Nagar.
On July 4, the Crime Branch had booked Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma on the complaint filed by one Manu Gupta, a property dealer in Channi Himmat, complaining that Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma was under-aged to get admission in MBBS course. Despite that she got the admission, the complainant had added. “As per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India (MCI), she was not eligible for admission into the MBBS course at the relevant time but in connivance with the then officers/officials of the J&K Board of School Education, she committed the offence of forgery and used forged documents as genuine, thereby causing wrongful gain to herself and corresponding wrongful loss to the state exchequer,” the complainant had submitted in his complaint.
Accordingly, a case was registered against Dr Sharma under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B RPC read with 5(1) (d) Prevention of Corruption Act 2006 at the police station economic offences wing (EOW) of crime branch, Jammu.
Acting upon the complaint, an investigation was initiated by the Crime Branch and it was found that Dr Sharma was in possession of two date of birth certificates – one having April 8, 1964 and another April 8, 1965 as her dates of birth.
At present Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal and Dean of Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu, is on interim bail until July 8.
Advocate Pranav Kohli, Advocate Aftab Malik and their team represented Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma before the Jammu Anti-Corruption Court, headed by Judge T K Raina and filed an application for anticipatory bail.
Apprehending her arrest, she moved a bail application before the court of anti-corruption judge,” sources said.
