JAMMU: With the Government focusing on accountability and transparency in various wings of the administration and to keep the people abreast about key information with regard to various departments, the use of information technology has gained impetus across Jammu and Kashmir in recent years. However, certain departments seem to be advertently not keeping pace with the technology by updating their portals. This happens either due to incompetence of the human resource or with the malicious intent of concealing the vital information to push specific cases under the carpet at ‘appropriate time’.
One such case in point is Crime Branch wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police, which is one of the vital nodal agencies to investigate the wrong-doings and crimes. The Crime Branch has failed in updating its portal for the reasons best known to the officers concerned.
When pointed out, some of the senior officers of the Crime Branch could not give satisfactory answer. They did not even bother to update the site once informed about it. The Crime Branch Website continues to crave for its update with regard to the FIRs and PV data for the past 10 years.
The last available report on the Website (http://crimebranchjkpolice.nic.in) is “List of PVs under probe with Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir-2012”, posted a decade ago in 2012. Since 2012-2013, the Crime Branch has not posted the annual FIR data. However, the list of a few cases posted in 2021 show the number of such cases from the executive police to the Crime Branch till then.
The Website remains updated with regard to the details about officers posted to the Crime Branch from time to time but it has no information about the FIRs, PV data or complaints received since 2012. The annual crime data of the J & K Crime Branch is missing from the site since 2012. This data is instrumental in gauging the crime situation across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The latest available report on the CB Website is “DISTRICT WISE REGISTRATION FROM YEAR 2006 TO 2020 IN RESPECT OF UT OF J&K/ LADAKH”.
