Crime Branch to probe into fake ration cards case

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday ordered an inquiry by Crime Branch into alleged allocation of ration to non-existent families in Mandi village of Poonch District.
The inquiry was ordered by State Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister Choudhary Zulfkar Ali while chairing a meeting to review the progress of verification of ration cards in Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley, an official spokesperson said.
While scrutinising the records, it was found that ration has been issued to non-existent families, he said.
Ordering a detailed inquiry by the Crime Branch of the State Police, the minister said, “A thorough enquiry is needed in the matter and stringent action under the rules would be taken against negligent officials.”
Emphasising on the need to weed out all bogus ration cards, he directed to devise a concrete mechanism to eliminate such type of malpractices.
