Crime Branch books imposter in ‘police’ job racket

JAMMU: Crime Branch Jammu registered a case against person who duped people on the name of job by introducing himself as PA to DGP.
According to the Crime Branch complaints lodged by Harsh Sharma son of Vijay Sharma resident of Q. No. 04 CD Hospital Complex, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu before the Governor’s Secretariat and Crime Branch revealed that the complainant met one Amarjeet Singh Lakha who told him that his partner namely Kuldeep Singh Manhas is getting his sons adjusted in the Police Department out of the discretionary quota of DGP J&K for which he has to pay Rs. 4.00 lakh, out of which Rs. 2.00 lakh, in advance, has been paid to one Ashfaq Ahmed Wani, PA to DGP.
On this the complainant asked Kuldeep Singh Manhas to fix a meeting with Ashfaq and accordingly he took the complainant to Police Line where Ashfaq Ahmad came out of his office and told the complainant that there are certain vacancies in the discretionary quota of the DGP which are not to be advertized and assured a job in lieu of Rs. 2.00 lakh each.
He further told that the proposal is ready and their names shall be included and the list will be out within fifteen days. It was further alleged that the complainant and his friend Omkar Singh resident of Chasana, Reasi paid Rs. 2.00 lakh each to said Ashfaq Ahmed Wani through Kuldeep Singh Manhas son late Angrez Singh Manhas resident of Durga Nagar, Jammu. However, after receiving the money neither they were provided the job nor the many taken was returned. On repeated contacts said Ashfaq Ahmed Wani told that he had got no money and that they can claim their money back from Kuldeep Singh Manhas, as such all the accused have cheated etc. On the receipt of these complaints, a preliminary verification was initiated in Crime Branch, Jammu and during the course of verification, it was found that complaint had paid the money through cheque No. 026629 dated 30.07.2014 amounting to Rs. 1.40 lakh and No. 026630 dated 30-07-2014 amounting to Rs. 40,000 for the purpose. It was also found that one Ashfaq Ahmed Wani son of retired S.I Ghulam Nabi Wani resident of Tral, Awantipora, Distt. Pulwama who impersonated as PA to DGP J&K and allured and cheated the complainant and his friend with the connivance of Kuldeep Singh Manhas son of. Angrez Singh Manhas resident of Suryavanshi Vihar Lower Roop Nagar, Jammu and Amarjeet Singh Lakha son of Om Parkash, resident of 198, Resham Ghar Colony, Jammu solely in order to cheat them and cause them wrongful loss by misappropriating the money. The omissions and commissions, therefore, on the part of Ashfaq Ahmed Wani, Kuldeep Singh Manhas and Amarjeet Singh Lakha prima facie, constitute offences punishable under section 419,420,406 RPC. Accordingly, a formal case was registered in police station Crime Branch, Jammu.
