JAMMU: The cricket in J&K is out from its anesthesia stage thanks to Court decisions of appointment of administrators (COA). A Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has been installed as the overall in charge of the J&K Cricket Association (JKCA). The CEO Fayaz Ahmad Bukhari being proactive and having taken the task as a crusader is busy understanding the real scenario of cricket in the State.
The example of his enthusiasm was seen when he suddenly appeared on a venue in Jammu to witness an ongoing match and interacted with players to their utter surprise who could not remain behind in thanking him and for his keen interest in this matter and wished him all success.
The CEO’s keen interest in the matters of cricket administration is being understood as the only hope by the cricketer fraternity of the State. The present team of selectors has been assured full support so that they can be fair and impartial in selections. This is the first time that these selections are being scanned by the newly inducted CEO.
It is hoped that the new stage of cricket in the State has been harbinger and the things will get better from now on since many a lackadaisical and deadwood persona had been ruling the roost in JKCA and had been acting arbitrarily and to the utter detriment of the cause of the youth.
It has been reliably learnt that a comprehensive plan has already been chalked out by the CEO and the new administration will use this podium of cricket for the betterment of cricketers at all levels starting from sub junior up to the senior level. The realisation that JKCA has its ultimate epicenter at the turf needs to prevail in the new administration. It should be the youth of the State to reap the benefits of each penny dispatched by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rather than the political battlers within JKCA and that the welfare of the young cricketers be not brushed aside like in the past years.
There is a great need to amend the Constitution of the JKCA so that new clubs find a place in the list of the JKCA affiliated clubs which will have at least two major benefits one that the JKCA will become more democratic and the second that the regularity of the cricket events at grass root levels will become productive to leverage cricketing talent in the State. Since almost half a century no new clubs have been let to come under the affiliation process due to the use of coercion and terror. Neither the JKCA Constitution nor the unwilling czars of JKCA enabled new clubs to be given the honour of JKCA affiliation. There is an issue of the defunct clubs as well which have not done even an iota of effort to nurture or keep the cricket alive in the State. The last but not the least important matter is the proliferation of providences for the school level cricket at the sub-junior level since that is the nursery of the sports. Unless the students at tender age are given fair chances, the parents sickened by the JKCA misdemeanor will put an absolute plug over the clue of their ward going to pick a bat or a ball.
