The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) plays a significant role in promoting and developing cricket within the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The JKCA was founded in 1986 with the objective of promoting cricket across Jammu and Kashmir. It was formally registered under the Jammu and Kashmir Societies Registration Act and operates as the governing body for cricket in the region. Over the years, JKCA has worked tirelessly to overcome challenges posed by the region’s geographical and political landscape, striving to provide opportunities for aspiring cricketers despite various obstacles. JKCA is structured with an administrative body comprising elected members who oversee various aspects of cricket administration in the region. The association is responsible for organizing tournaments, managing cricket academies, selecting state teams, and maintaining cricketing facilities across Jammu and Kashmir. The President and other office-bearers are elected periodically to lead and represent the interests of JKCA. One of JKCA’s primary objectives has been to develop cricketing infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the years, significant investments have been made to improve stadium facilities, practice grounds, and training academies. Major stadiums include the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar and the Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu, which host domestic matches and provide a platform for local talent to showcase their skills. Jammu and Kashmir’s cricket teams actively participate in various domestic tournaments conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Teams compete in tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy (first-class cricket), Vijay Hazare Trophy (one-day matches), and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20 matches). JKCA works closely with BCCI to ensure that Jammu and Kashmir teams receive adequate support, logistical assistance, and exposure to competitive cricketing environments. Looking ahead, JKCA aims to further enhance cricketing infrastructure, expand youth development programs, and strengthen its administrative capabilities. The association continues to seek partnerships and collaborations to support its initiatives, improve facilities, and elevate the standard of cricket in Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association will host a big number of national matches this season, including three Ranji Trophy matches after a gap of six years in Srinagar and Jammu.
