Court rejects 5 bail applications in NDPS cases
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Principal Sessions Judge Kathua MA Chowdhary rejected five bail applications of Sumit Kumar, Sonu Kumar, Naresh Kumar, Chander Shekhar and Bodh Raj, who were arrested by Kathua Police in different NDPS cases.
Justice Chowdhary after hearing both the sides observed that loss in terms of human potential to narcotic/drug users being in the productive age is incalculable, causing damage to their physical, psychological, moral and intellectual growth. The prevalence of Narcotic/Drug Abuse can be judged from the trends reflected by a survey report on the ‘extent, pattern and trends’ of Drug Abuse in India jointly released by the United Nations Office of Drug and Crime (UNODC) and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, which revealed that India’s population had twice the global number of Drug Abusers. Narcotic/Drug Abuse has become a major problem of the society over the years. Cases against narcotic/drug peddlers indicate interstate narcotic/drug rackets targeting school kids as well. The deadly menace, a major problem of the society, requires to be checked through strengthening the reinforcement of law, stricto sensu. With these observations, Court rejected the bail applications.
