SRINAGAR: A local court here granted bail to Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman, Yasin Malik and his associates after they were detained on charges of attempt to murder earlier this week.
The court of 2nd Additional Sessions judge Srinagar directed the Superintendant Central Jail Srinagar to release Malik and seven other JKLF activists on interim bail upto January 21 after obtaining personal bonds from them.
Court directed the jail authorities to obtain personal bond to the tune of Rs 30,000 each of the accused and “release them from custody if they are not involved in any other case”.
Malik and his associates were booked on charges of attempt to murder and sent to jail in connection with a violent protest here last week during which a young police officer suffered serious injuries.
The court said the personal bond if furnished by the accused be transmitted to this court.
The JKLF chairman and his associates were granted bail on condition that they shall not terrorize or hamper the prosecution witnesses or tamper with the prosecution evidence. “They shall not repeat the similar offences during the period of bail and shall not leave Kashmir province without prior permission of this court,” the Sessions judge said.
The police spokesperson said Malik, along with his associates, took out a procession on Friday “without any prior permission from the district administration to protest” against the twin-killings allegedly by Village Defence Committee members in Rajouri area of Jammu.
Malik is accused by police of inciting and instigating his associates with an intention to create disturbances.
Protests triggered stone pelting in which a deputy superintendant of police, Fahad Tak received a serious injury to his eye and his nose was also fractured.
The 29-year-old officer, a direct Kashmir Police Service (KPS) recruit of 2011 batch and on his first field posting, had to be airlifted to Delhi and is under treatment at AIIMS New Delhi.
The JKLF activists along with Malik were later sent to judicial custody and lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar.
