Court denies bail in Exchange Road shootout case

JAMMU: Special Municipal Mobile Magistrate Jammu M.R Chak rejected the bail application of Supreet Singh alias Raja, who was allegedly involved in daylight shootout case at Exchange Road.
Court after hearing Chief Prosecuting Officer (CPO) Javid Ahmed Khawaja with Senior Prosecuting Officer (PO) Anil Dev Jamwal appearing for the State observed that Report filed by the police revealed that on 13th March 2017, Police Post Parade Jammu received information through reliable resources about scuffle between some persons at Exchange Road, Jammu.
Upon this, Officer Incharge Sub Inspector Deepak Katoch rushed to the spot and found that one person namely Inderjit Singh was injured in the scuffle and was shifted to District Hospital Sarwal, Jammu by the persons present there. Subsequently, he went there for recording the statement of the injured.
The injured namely Inderjit Singh, son of Sarwan Singh, resident of Gurha Bakshi Nagar, Jammu stated that he is working in a private finance company having its office at Exchange Road, Jammu. Inderjit further stated that on the day of occurrence at about 4.30 PM, he went out for having cup of tea with one of the colleagues namely Vikas Gupta in a nearby tea stall and while both of them were on their way back to the office, three youth armed with weapons all of a sudden appeared with common criminal intention and attacked him with a motive to kill him.
One of the accused namely Supreet Singh alias Raja fired a gun shot but the injured had narrow escape and in the meantime the other co-accused attacked him with a sword on his head resulting in severe head injury.
The third co-accused started beating him with kicks and blows. The person accompanying the injured namely Vikas Gupta during this attack raised hue and cry and accused took to their heels leaving the injured in a pool of blood.
Court observed that we are living in civilized society and in order to have an orderly society, there must be deterrence so that such incidents never take place. With these observations court rejected the bail application.
