Core group bats for augmenting relief, rehabilitation

UDHAMPUR: The sincere and persistent efforts of STATE TIMES finally succeeded in bringing to fore the plight of deluge affected people of Udhampur District and consequently compelling the helmsmen steering the relief operations to pay heed to the dilemma of flood ridden populace in this part of the State.
On the direction of M.M Kumar, Chief Justice J and K High Court and Patron-in-Chief, State Legal Services Authority, Chairman District Legal Services Committee (DLSC) has constituted a Core Group team at Tehsil level to take stock of woes of flood affected people. Consequently, Core Group team headed by Jatinder Singh Jamwal (CJM) Tehsil Legal Service Committee (TLSC) Udhampur visited number of affected villages of Udhampur including Amroh, Ghori-Khas in Tehsil Ramnagar, Panjnallah, Babey, Garh, Samna-Banj and Pathwar in Tehsil Majlata, Sewna, Sarar, Marothi, Nagolta, Basht, Kalwalta and Sudhmahadev in Tehsil Chenani and took stock of losses suffered by people. Team observed that measures carried out in these flood affected areas were not adequate and immediate attention of administration is required to bail out the victims of flood from their present awful condition.
The core group team also found that most of the affected people have not been provided with proper tented accommodation therefore they are bound to live under unsafe tarpaulin sheets. Beside this, people also complained about loss of connectivity due to damaged roads edifice and functioning of schools in unsafe buildings. Core group also visited the relief camp setup at village Panjar where affected people of village Sadal have been provided temporary shelters. Team also observed that free ration as directed by state Govt. has not been supplied till date to the affected people of the area. According to Govt. order, free ration for a period of 6 months is to be provided to the affected families. Order says 50 kg ration shall be provided to each family right from month of September 2014. Core group also projected the grievances of the affected people to Deputy Commissioner Udhampur. Core group has impressed upon the administration that the matter may be taken up with concerned department/agencies so that the aggrieved affected people may not suffer any more and their problems should be addressed at the earliest.
Special emphasis has been made upon administration to ensure the implementation of the order relating to provision of free ration to the affected people and it’s monitoring in order to obviate the possibility of pilferage of food stocks meant for the affected people.
