Contractors ask Govt to release funds, clear liabilities

JAMMU: Asking that there is non-availability of funds for construction of Cluster University at Jammu, President, Registered Contractors Association Jammu, Sham Singh warned the government that all developmental activities shall be put to a grinding halt if the funds for these schemes are not arranged and all liabilities cleared.
Talking to reporters here today, Sham said works for construction of buildings at different sites in existing government colleges were allotted to PWD contractors in the year 2014-15 and as per agreement the buildings were required to be completed in one year’s stipulated period.
Sham said that on the one hand the government is worried about starting the session and at the other is sleeping over the issue of releasing funds for already completed works, on which the contractor have spent huge amount running into crores.
General Secretary of the Association Vinod Kohli said “We were assured that the funds is no problem and upto 31st of March all liabilities shall be cleared but no funds were arranged.” He urged the engineering departments to fix the taxes at the time of allotment, especially where the completion period is more than six months.
Sham appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene personally to resolve the issue and clear the bottle beck in releasing of funds at the earliest.
