Constitute Minority Commission in J&K: Vibodh

SRINAGAR: BJP senior leader and MLC Vibodh Gupta on Thursday raised the issue of minority status for the Hindus of J&K in the Upper House. During the proceedings of the house, Vibodh asked the information related to the current population status of various communities in the State.
He demanded information on which community in the state falls under minority category.
Consequently, he was informed that at present J&K has 68.31 per cent Muslims, 31 per cent Hindus while Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Jains constitute 1.87 per cent, 0.28 per cent, 0.90 per cent and 0.02 per cent of the total population respectively. MLC was further informed that as per the national minorities’ data Muslims fall under the minority status.
Reacting to this, Vibodh said that as per these figures within the state of J&K Hindus should also be given the minority status.
He further asked whether there is any minority commission in the state and accordingly house was informed that currently there is no minority commission in the state.
Upon this, Vibodh demanded constitution of a minority commission in Jammu and Kashmir.
Not satisfied with the response, MLC Vibodh Gupta walked out of the house in protest for not getting attention of the house towards the issue of prime significance.
