Vijaypur: Rejecting package of Central Government for Displace Persons (DPs) of Jammu and Kashmir, JKPCC General Secretary and former Minister Manjit Singh alleged that Modi Government has been rubbing salt on the wounds of state-subject DPs who were uprooted from home land in different wars with Pakistan.
Chairing a monthly meeting of Congress party in Vijaypur, Manjit Singh, senior Congress leader, said that Modi Government has disappointed the DPs who were expecting comprehensive package from the BJP led NDA Government in Centre.
However, the election promises were not fulfilled by the BJP.
“They have misled the people with false promises and hollow slogans. When they formed Government in Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has miserably failed to keep his promises,” said Singh.
The poor DPs have been spending their lives without any help from the Government even as they lost their properties during wars with Pakistan, he said, adding that in comparison, Kashmiri Pandits were considered separately and provided all possible help from the Government.
The DPs, despite being state subjects of Jammu and Kashmir, have been forced to live a life like a migrant in own home land or State, he alleged, adding challenged Narindra Modi to fulfill his promises.
Former Minister demanded that the central Government should give compensation of Rs 30 lakhs to each DP family instead of Rs 5.5 lakhs.
“Rs 5.5 Lakh is an inefficient amount. The Central Government should keep in mind the suffering of the DPs for decades and enhance compensation amount to Rs 30 lakhs per DP family,” he said. He said that Congress led UPA Government had announced Rs 25 lakh each DP family and the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) had announced Rs 30 lakhs. There is not only issue of compensation, he said, that there are issues of land ownership and employment. He alleged that under present government, several militancy related incidents have taken place leaving civilian and soldiers dead in some places.
“There is no impact on ground taken against Pakistan. The Modi Government has failed to deal with the situation. They have not given compensation to those killing in Pak shelling.
He said that the time has come to teach a lesson to Pakistan as it has continued to support militants and push them inside Jammu and Kashmir to disrupt peaceful situation. Those who spoke in the meeting include Trith Bhagat, Surinder Sharma,Babble Gupta,Shamshar Singh jamwal, Bhagat Sai Dass, Sarpanch Brij Pal Singh , Sarpanch Natha Ram,Sarpanch Sham Lal Bhagat, Babu Ram Bhagat,Mukesh Jogi,Ch.
