JAMMU: Congress shall fight against the communal, divisive and anti-poor policies of the Modi Government and continue to strengthen the bonds of unity and harmony.
This was stated by President JKPCC G.A. Mir while presiding over the daylong convention organised by Minority Wing of PCC under the chairmanship of Jahangir Mir, Deputy Chairman Legislative Council.
Senior AICC leader and MP Rajya Sabha Shamsher Singh Dullo was the Chief Guest while AICC Minority Department Vice Chairman P.S Bawa was Guest of Honour. Senior PCC leaders Sham Lal Sharma Senior Vice President, CLP Leader N. Rigzin Jora, Vice President Raman Bhalla, Ravinder Sharma, Shabir Khan, Manjit Singh, Vikram Malhotra, S.S. Channi and Ch. Shahnawaz besides functionaries of Minority Wing Gurdarshan Singh Vice Chairman, Gajan Singh Chairman Jammu Province and Bhupinder Singh were also present.
At the outset, tributes were paid to the former Minister and veteran Congress leader G.L. Dogra on his Death Anniversary.
Appreciating the minority wing of the party for organizing the large convention representing all minority sections from all over Jammu Province, Mir said that secular credentials of Congress makes it a distinct party having policies based on mutual co-existence and equal opportunities for all.
Referring to the current crisis on account of hardships due to demonetisation without adequate arrangements, he said that Congress and entire opposition is duty bound to highlight the miseries and hardships resulting into numerous deaths.
AICC Minority Department Vice Chairman P.S. Bawa referred to the Congress party’s secular approach and respect towards the minorities and said that it was during Dr. Manmohan Singh’s regime that a separate Minority Affairs Ministry was created besides launching of various schemes for the welfare of minorities in the country.
Senior Congress leader and MP Shamsher Singh Dullo criticized the policies and philosophy of Modi Government and BJP which according to him had made the minorities in this country apprehensive and feel insecure.
Sham Lal Sharma said that party has always given place and regard to the rights of different sections and asked the minorities to come forward to strengthen Congress. Sharma also took strong exception of the statement of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and termed it as highly objectionable, which has hurt the sentiments of people. He condemned the utterances of Dr. Abdullah, which is contrary to the constitutional position.
Raman Bhalla said that divisive agenda of certain forces has created sense of insecurity amongst minorities and asked them to strengthen secular policies of Congress.
Earlier a resolution was passed in the convention demanding setting up a minority commission in the State. It was demanded that a nodal officer be appointed to coordinate the percolation and implementation of various schemes by the Centre so that the benefits reach to deserving people. Gurdarshan Singh Vice Chairman PCC Minority Department conducted the proceedings while Dalbir Singh presented the resolution.
Dalbir Singh, Manjit Singh Jatt, Thomas Khokher, Michal Masih, Naser Masih, Mian Nazir, Kirtan Singh, H.L Pandita (Migrant Cell), Chetan Wanchoo (PYC), Isher Singh and Rajinder Singh were also present.
