Cong holds blood donation to commemorate Rajiv death anniversary

JAMMU: Congress on Thursday organised a blood donation camp here to commemorate the 24th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

“Rich tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 24th Death Anniversary. A blood donation camp was also organized at the venue, in which large number of volunteers donated blood,” a party spokesman said.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-president of the Pradesh Congress Committee Sham Lal Sharma said, “Rajiv Gandhi made supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country.

He was the architect of the 21st Century India who brought revolution in the field of information technology.”

Describing Rajiv Gandhi as the architect of Panchayat Raj system in the county, Congress Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Nawang Rigzin Jora said, “He fulfilled the dreams of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi to devolve powers of planning and development to the grass root institutions of democracy so that the people shape their own destiny as per their needs”.

Jora credited the former Prime Minister  for lowering the voting age from 21 years to 18 years to ensure that the youth can also participate in the country’s electoral system.

HIRANAGAR:  A social organisation in Hiranagar observed the day as  anti–terrorism day in Government Primary School Dayalachack. The president of the organization said the main motive of the programme is to create awareness among the students and general public through media regarding the terrorism .

Others present in the programme included Joint Secretary Vishal Vohra, Jyoti Sagar, Headmaster Subash Singh, R.C Sharma , Samilly Tedial. On the culmination of programme study material and refreshment was distributed among the students.

VIJAYPUR: Youth Congress workers of Vijaypur under the leadership of Rajan Sharma – Youth Congress Lok Sabha General Secretary Jammu – Poonch Constituency distributed the note-books, pencils, pens and fruits among the students in Govt. Middle School Thalori, Vijaypur on the eve of 25th death anniversary of Rajeev Gandhi.

Rajan Sharma highlighted the achievements of Rajeev Gandhi and said that the Computer Age in India was started at the time of Prime Ministership of Rajeev Gandhi. He said that Rajeev Gandhi was modern leaders. His untimely death is great loss to our Nation. Meanwhile Babal Gupta Vice President  of District Congress Committee Samba paid the tribute to Rajeev Gandhi.

UDHAMPUR: Congress activists in Udhampur commemorated 24th Death Anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi under the leadership of Sumit Magotra Youth leader and former District Youth Congress Udhampur.  Two minute silence was observed with candle lighting in the programme to recall the yeoman services rendered to the country by Rajiv Gandhi. The function was also addressed by  Balwant Singh, Arun Verma , Gopal Sharma, Tirath ram, Jivan Sharma, Bhushan Kumar , Ramesh Kumar and Vikrant .

KISHTWAR: Remembering late Prime Minister of India, District Congress along with NSUI committee Kishtwar paid a rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi at a function held at Congress office Kishtwar. The function was presided over by Pardeep Singh Parihar President District Congress Committee by Kishtwar and was attended prominent congress workers and NSUI activists. Prakash Singh Dadwal District President NSUI Kishtwar was also present and spoke about the life history of Rajiv Gandhi .

Prominent Congress leaders and NSUI activists who spokes on the occasion included Haji Ghulam Hassan Mir Block President Congress Kishtwar, Master Ghulam Mohd, Nazir Sheikh, Sheikh Irshad, Sheikh irshad Ahamed, Lateef Choubdaar, Shakeel Ahamed Dar, Syed Zakir Hussain, Shabir Ahamed, Prakash Singh, Ravi Kumar, Aarif Majid, Mohd Aslam and Basir Ahamed.

Meanwhile Congress leaders and party workers from Udhampur  participated in “Balidan Diwas” in the memory of Late Rajeev Gandhi, organised by J and K Pradesh Congress Committee at Jammu.

A well attended blood donation camp was also organised to pay homage to Rajiv Gandhi.  The Distt Congress Committee team was lead by Ashok Gupta,   President, Distt Congress Committee Udhampur. The programme was organised at J K Resorts Trikuta Nagar.

The Distt Congress Committee along with Distt Youth Congress Udhampur also organised a function to pay Homage to Rajeev Gandhi, the participants visited the Old Age Home and distributed fruit and cloths at Udhampur also.

Others who  also participated in the event-Vijay Manhas , Sec J&K PCC, Mohan Lal Kalsotra, Manav Updhayaya, Ravi Shastri, Shashi  Manhas  Sarpanch, Shankar Verma, Dev Raj Panch , Madan Lal, Lovendit, Tariq Ahmed and Iqlabay Manhas. The youth leaders who participate – Rakesh Bodhi, Prateek Mahajan, Akhil Sharma and  Pankaj Sharma.

Meanwhile, a blood donation camp was also organised by Srinagar unit of PCC to mark the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The camp was inaugurated by PCC President and former Minister G.A Mir.

About 167 prominent leaders and workers donated blood in Srinagar.

Mir recalled the supreme sacrifice of late Rajiv Gandhi for the unity and integrity of the country. He was assassinated on this day at a young age and the country was deprived of a dynamic leader.

Mir expressed his dissatisfaction over the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Govt in the country, stating that Gandhian Ideology and pro people policies of this family are being thrown to the winds, as communal tension has already gripped the country, but he hoped that present NDA Govt led by Modi will not succeed in implementing their communal agenda and wrong polices in the country, people will give them befitting reply.
