Cong flays Modi Govt for demonetisation haste; leaders court arrest

JAMMU: Dozens of Congress leaders on Friday court arrested while staging protest over the issue of demonetization causing hardship to the general public without adequate arrangements.
Led by President, District Congress Committee Jammu (U), Anil Chopra, dozens of Congress activists assembled at Maheshpura Chowk Bakshi Nagar and move towards Civil Secretariat but heavy contingent of police deployed at Maheshpura Chowk foiled the protest march.
JKPCC Vice-President Kanta Bhan, General Secretaries Yogesh Sawhney and Th. Manmohan Singh, Secretaries Pawan Raina, Sanjeev Sharma and Manjit Singh Jatt were among over 100 prominent activists were taken into custody by the police.
The agitating Congress leaders sought exposure and action against BJP ministers allegedly involved in corrupt practices as surfaced in media. They lambasted Modi Govt for demonetization without adequate preparation as a result common people are suffering a lot and facing hardships to meet their day today requirements resulting into number of deaths. They also demanded that BJP Ministers allegedly involved in corrupt practices, as surfaced in the media should be exposed and sacked.
The demonstration was part of the nationwide protests by the Congress and opposition parties over the issue of hardships faced by the people due to demonetization.
Others who joined the protest include Ram Parkesh, Dr. Rama Kant Khajuria, Sunil Kumar, Gourav Chopra, Ashwani Handa, Puneet Arora, Rajesh Sharma, Babu Singh, Pawan Sharma, Aditya Dogra, Rajinder Singh, Maqbool Ahmed, J.L Koul, Kulbushan, Parshotam Mehra, P.S Chouan, Vinay Sharma, Bodh Raj, Naresh Maini, Kewal Krishan, Ashu Mehra, Sandeep Bhalla, J.L Koul, Sat Pal Spolia, Mohammad Tariq and Dewan Chand.
Meanwhile, Women Wing of Pradesh Congress Committee led by its President Indu Pawar staged protest against the Prime Minister’s decision of demonetization and its effect on all sections of society. The women Congress activists also expressed resentment over the alleged involvement of minister in corrupt practices.
“Such planned step has put every section of the society in difficulty and end may not be known to the Prime Minister Modi who is busy in reading online survey only,” she said adding that the situation in rural areas amongst farmers is very bad. She appealed to the Central Government to arrange adequate cash for every consumer of bank, post offices and rural co-operative banks.
She asked BJP leadership and State Government led by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to exposé the names of the corrupt ministers and take action against them as per law of land.
Others joined the protest include Vandana, Reeta, Santosh Sharma, Geeta Dogra, Sunita Rajput and Bhupinder Kour.
