Cong for ensuring rights to tribal community

JAMMU: Congress on Saturday reiterated its resolve to ensure rights to Schedule Tribe community in the State.
Addressing a meeting of JKPCC Scheduled Tribe Department, PCC Chief G.A Mir appreciated the members of ST community claiming it to be hard working and unarmed soldiers of peace and brotherhood. Senior Vice President Sham Lal Sharma, Deputy CLP Leader Aiyaz Khan and Vice President Raman Bhalla were also present. Chairman ST Cell Ch. Mohd. Akram MLA presided over the meeting which was attended by the State functionaries of the ST Department and District President of Jammu Province of PCC ST Department.
Mir asked the community leaders to represent their masses and protect their rights, while assuring that Congress would always play an effective role for their upliftment and safeguarding their genuine rights.
Sham Lal Sharma said that Congress has always stood with the genuine cause of STs and would continue to do so, in the larger interests of these deprived sections of the society and keeping in view their role in the nation buildings. Cautioning them against the designs of the anti-national and anti-social forces, Sham Lal urged them to strengthen the bonds of communal harmony and unity. Aijaz Khan highlighted the issues and problems of ST community.
Ch. Mohd, Akram highlighted in detail the plight of the STs regarding their undue harassment by the Government regarding their rights of occupancy. He also raised the difficulties faced by them along LoC and Indo-Pak border due to current tension.
