Cong demands compensation for Pak-firing affected

JAMMU: Congress expressed serious concern over the increased shelling by the Pakistan in several border areas, especially in R S Pura, Akhnoor and Nowshera sectors since yesterday, as a result some precious lives have been lost and large scale casualties of live stock have also taken place.
Expressing shock over the casualties, senior Congress leaders in a meeting took stock of the reports about border firing and the plight of border residents in various parts of Jammu Province. The meeting expressed sympathies with the border residents who are facing the brunt of Pak firing targeting several civilian areas.
State Congress leaders urged upon the government to immediately come out a policy for adequate relief, rescue and rehabilitation of the border residents getting affected, for the loss being suffered by them. They demanded that the affected people should be provided adequate relief commensurate with the loss of cattle and property. In the hilly terrain, the government should conduct and facilitate the digging and construction of bunkers and trenches etc. in consultation with border residents and in the event of migration adequate arrangements should be in position in the camps unlike in the past few days, when army rendered the necessary short falls in the arrangement in the camps. The signatories to the statement included Sham Lal Sharma, Mula Ram, Ravinder Sharma, Rajnish Sharma, Vikram Malhotra, Anil Chopra, Shashi Sharma, Neeraj Gupta, Surinder Gupta, Thomos Khoker, Manjit Singh Jatt, Sanjeev Sharma, Sukhdev Choudhary , P.S Chowan and Dr. R.K Khajuria.
