LEH: Parents of students studying in Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) in Nubra Diskit appealed to J and K Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar to consider out of turn promotion and State Award in favour of In-charge Principal and Lecturer Physics Tsewang Dorjay for his outstanding performance in the Higher Secondary School for the last four consecutive years.
“In the recently declared board results, the school has scored 97 per cent in class 10th and 85 per cent in class 12th. However, out of 16 distinctions in class 12th in the district, the school has bagged 13 distinctions. In both class 10th and 12th, a total 90 students of the school have passed under distinctions and first divisions which itself is an indicator of how lecturers and teachers of the school under the supervision of Tsewang Dorjay have dedicatedly served the students,” reads a letter addressed to the Minister for Education by the Block Education Committee and representatives of parents, urging the minister to consider out of turn promotion and State Award in favour of Dorjay.
It added that ever since 2014 academic session, the extraordinary efforts put in by Dorjay and his colleagues have been bearing fruits on every occasion.
The results of the class 10th registered 100 per cent, 89 per cent, 100 per cent and 97 per cent in the year 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively. The percentage of class 12th results of the year 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 are 79, 100, 71 and 85 respectively. Besides satisfactory performance in the regular academic curriculum, the school has twice lifted the trophy of the Great Ladakh Quiz Contest hosted by Indian Ambassador, Deepak Vohra in 2013 and 2014.
It is pertinent to mention here that Tsewang Dorjay and his team mobilised support and funds from different sources to arrange extra coaching for students when required as an endeavour to bring students of rural Ladakh at par with any good school academically. As the school was performing exceptionally well in all fields and scoring good results in board exams, students passing out from reputed private schools also started seeking admissions in Higher Secondary Diskit in large numbers.
Tsewang Dorjay was honoured with District Award by Ladakh Autonomous hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh two years ago for his dedicated and selfless service.
