Colonial legacy

0 56

Dear Editor,
Even after 69 years of Independence, the colonial legacy of treating common citizens as second-class citizens still persists. Government offices are glaring examples showcasing this legacy. Go to any public office or building, there are two types of facilities – one for common citizens and the other for officials/officers. Why is this discrimination allowed in a country where all citizens are considered equal by the Constitution? It just shows the callous and irresponsible attitude of the officialdom who consider themselves as special and a different creed than the commoners. They forget that they are being paid and ‘maintained’ on public money. They are appointed to serve the general public, but rather than serve the people, they are busy serving themselves and their near and dear ones.
