STATE TIMES NEWS
RAJOURI: Appreciating the visit of Governor, Reserve Bank of India, Dr Raghuram Rajan to flood-affected areas of Pampore, Rajpora, Awantipora, Littar, Kakapora and other areas of Pulwama district in Kashmir, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Hamid Choudhary on Friday said that these people if are provided better means to sustain they would go a long way in also keeping the traditional handicrafts alive while making their both ends meet.
Having suffered a lot during floods these people including artisans were still trying to bring their lives back on rails and this effort of Finance Minister, Dr Haseeb Drabu in making RBI Governor have the first hand information about people’s sufferings is a great initiative that will enable financial institutions to come forward and help affected ones in whatever manner they can, Choudhary Hamid added.
The PDP leader said that state government was quite sensitive to people’s sufferings and such initiatives were also aimed at supporting the flood-affected people of J&K and reviving their livelihood in whatever possible manner the coalition government can. He said financial institutions can play a major role in reviving the shattered economy of flood affected people and RBI must explore all such possibilities and extend the same to J&K State as soon as possible.
Local traders, businessmen, entrepreneurs, agriculturalists and Self Help Groups (SHG) were all sufferers but despite that several women enterprisers are still undeterred and are continuing to sustain in most hostile conditions and without much resources at their disposal. Choudhary Hamid hoped intervention of RBI Governor would make financial institutions realise the potential of these artisans whose finished products if marketed well in a big way outside the State would not only promote local crafts but also ensure better returns to them.
The PDP leader said that coalition government under the dynamic leadership of chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is working round the clock to explore possibilities of finding good markets for our finished products.
He said that tourism promotional schemes were also aimed at helping local artisans so which people must also cooperate and have faith in the statesmanship of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
