JAMMU: A meeting of District Congress Committee Jammu Urban was held here today at PCC HQ. Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu under the presidentship of Anil Chopra in which various problems of people were highlighted besides it took stock of the progress of the ongoing membership drive of the party.
Chopra said that there is acute shortage of ration at all the government ration depots in Jammu city and the general public, especially the poor are facing great hardships on this score.
They have been compelled to purchase ration from the open market on higher rates. The prices of essential commodities like pluses and vegetables are sky rocketing. There are long scheduled and unscheduled cuts in the electric power supply and shortage of drinking water in many localities of the city.
He criticized government for cruel joke with the farmers by providing them relief in the shape of cheque of rupees below 100.
Chopra asked the government to immediately make available adequate quantity of ration at the government depots of the city and it should also be ensured that rations depots remain open for at least six hours of a day and black marketing of ration should be checked effectively.
The progress of ongoing membership drive of the party was also discussed in the meeting. The speakers stress the need of enrolling genuine members and giving due representation to youth, women and people SC, ST and other downtrodden sections of the society.
