CME-cum-workshop on ‘Medico-legal Aspects of Rape Trial’ organised

JAMMU: One day National Continuing Medical Education (CME)-cum-Workshop on topic ‘Medicolegal Aspects of Rape Trial’ was organised by the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Government Medical College in the collaboration with Voice For Rights-NGO in the auditorium of GMC, here on Saturday.
“It was first of its kind event as its goal was to provide the highest level of training, practical instructions, current information and strategies to medical professionals, doctors who are responders and advocates to the victims of crime against women,” Head of Department (HoD), Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, as also Organising Secretary, Dr Bhupesh Khajurua said.
The participants included H.O.Ds, Faculty, Residents, P.Gs & U.G students from GMC and S.M.G.S Hospitals aswell as A.S.C.O.M.S Sidhra. Moreover, Gynecologists & Medical officers from peripheral Health institutions including Gandhi Nagar & Sarwal Hospitals also participated.
The workshop was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Dr. Zahid Gillani, Principal and Dean GMC Jammu in the presence of HoDs, Faculty, Residents, PGs and UG students from GMC and SMGS Hospitals as well as ASCOMS Sidhra.
Moreover, Gynecologists and Medical officers from peripheral health institutions including Gandhi Nagar and Sarwal Hospitals also participated.
The welcome address was presented by Dr. Bhupesh Khajuria whereas the introduction and objective of CME was read by Advocate Deepika Singh Rajawat, Chairperson of NGO.
Professor Dr. Jagadeesh N. Reddy, a renowned Forensic Medicine Expert from VIMSR, Bangalore, delivered guest lecture on the topic ‘Protocol of examination of Rape victims, opinion framing & recent advances in Rape laws’.
Dr. Sunil Sharma BMO from Health Department discussed about ‘Rape Trauma Syndrome’ and ‘Suggestions for Speedy trial in Rape cases’.
A documentary on the theme ‘India’s daughters-Indian Rapists’ was also screened. Additional Advocate General, J and K High Court, Advocate Aseem Sawhney highlighted the celebrated judgments on Rape trial. Babila Rakwal, Administrator also spoke regarding female harassment.
