CME-cum-awareness drive on HPV Vaccination held in GMC Jammu

JAMMU: In collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, GMC Jammu and under the stewardship of teachers from Gender Development Committee, students curated a special programme to raise awareness and to facilitate vaccination for MBBS students against Human Papilloma Virus.
The event was inducted by Rupambir Singh and Pragati Sharma who gave a prelude to objectives of the prospect.
It was followed by an elucidation over Gender Development Committee by Lavanya Gupta and Ritik from Final Prof.
The event was graced by the presence of Principal and dean Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma.
Dr Reema Khajuria, Professor and Head, Gynaecology and Obstetrics shared her sincerest encomium on efforts of students and doctors in this battle against HPV.
Dr Saima Sadiq from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology laid elaborative emphasis over screening methods for Cervical Cancer.
A special skit was performed by students that showcased various impediments for vaccination like misinformation, myths, shame and stigma. A panel discussion was also held, moderated tooth and nail by Dr Deepti Mahajan, Professor, Department of Pathology.
The panel brought together several luminaries like Dr Rakesh Bahl, Professor Community Medicine, Dr Sanjeev Kumar Digra, Professor of Pediatrics, Dr Pooja, Assistant professor Pediatrics, Dr Aakriti Manhas and Dr Anju Dogra, Assistant professor from Department of Gynecology. They discussed extensively on epidemiological aspects of the disease, various modalities of detection and screening and safety of vaccines for pediatric and adult population.
Dr Shashi Sudan lauded the role of faculty and students in bringing up such an event with zeal. She emphasized on the need to fight against the preventable cancer of Cervix with the effective vaccine against the Human Papilloma Virus, the known cause of cancer cervix among women. She reiterated the need to make use of vaccines against Hepatitis B also, by all health care professionals to prevent the menace of hepatitis B cause of another cancer affecting liver. The awareness event concluded with a vote of Thanks by Lavanya Talwar.
This was followed by vaccination drive helmed by nursing staff wherein students volunteered in droves to get themselves vaccinated. To make this event a success, encouraging spirit of Dr Jyotsana Suri, Professor Pathology, Dr Vinay Menia Assistant professor Gynaecology, Dr Neha Mahajan, Assistant professor gynaecology was thoroughly instrumental.
