CM appreciates IGNOU Achievements 2024-25 pertaining to Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Regional Director IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar Dr. A.H. Rizvi interacted with Omar Abdullah Chief Minister of UT of Jammu & Kashmir whereupon Dr. Rizvi briefed about IGNOU activities in Kashmir valley and presented a detailed report of the achievements of year 2024-25.

During the meeting, the Regional Director highlighted several key accomplishments for the year 2024-25.
He briefed Chief Minister about the presence of IGNOU in all the districts of the Kashmir Division including the UT of Ladakh and the mandate of the University to reach the unreached and to reach all the marginalized sections of the society, promoting of the entrepreneurship that will encourage IGNOU Learner to pursue entrepreneurial ventures, encourage innovation and creativity, building a supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurs, encouraging entrepreneurship as a means of job creation and contributing to economic growth by promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.
Chief Minister was happy to learn that IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar has enrolled more than 45000 thousand students for the year 2024-25 admission cycles from the various academic programmes of the University.
A significant point of discussion was the establishment of the dedicated placement cell in Regional Centre which will enhance industry linkage and ensure better employment opportunities for IGNOU Learners.
The Director emphasized that this new cell will play a pivotal role in connecting skilled IGNOU Learner with prospective employers across the country especially UT of J&K. The cell will bridge the gap between training and industry requirements, ensuring sustained livelihood opportunities.
In line with expanding collaborative efforts, the Regional Director also discussed the strategic partnership with NIELIT Srinagar for implementing digital skill initiatives under various Government schemes. This collaboration is aimed at enhancing the curriculum, introducing advanced digital training modules, and fostering research and innovation in emerging technologies. This partnership will focus on providing IT and electronics training to underserved populations, in line with the government’s vision of a digitally empowered society.
In a significant step toward the expansion, Dr. Rizvi Director also announced the establishment of Study Centre at the Central University of Kashmir for M.Sc. Science based programmes. This initiative will support academic integration, facilitate the delivery of need based academic programmes of the University, and provide students with direct access to the academic programmes of the University.
He also briefed about the establishment of a work centre at Composite Regional Centre Srinagar for PG Diploma in Rehabilitation Psychology. Dr Rizvi also briefed about the University’s roadmap for the students of Kashmir and other stakeholders.
The Chief Minister welcomed these developments and commended the efforts of Regional Centre Srinagar. He expressed full support for initiatives that promote capacity building, youth empowerment, and digital inclusion across Jammu & Kashmir.
