SRINAGAR: Expressing concern on the collapse of mobile telephony in north Kashmir, Chairman Kashmir Society and President KDF, Khwaja Farooq Renzushah while chairing a meeting on Friday said that the crisis is escalating and the impact is fast affecting south and central Kashmir as well.

Emphasising on the need of protecting mobile towers and mobile communications, the meeting said that it seems that under macabre clandestine plan this system is being disrupted so that situation in Kashmir is reverted to 90s type when every second person used to threaten other in the name of Tahreek or Tanzeem.

The meeting informed that owners who have given their premises for towers of mobile companies are being pressurized to render their mobile towers defunct.  “The 50 per cent signal strength of these towers has already affected Srinagar city’s communication but still there is time to protect this system”, the meeting anticipated.

The meeting said that if Hurriyat really believes in protection of these towers they should ask the tower owners not to remove their towers rather than start discussions on probe by forces across the border. The meeting further said that under the contract with mobile companies people should protect the mobile towers and concerning accessories.

“People should mark if mobile tower signals get affected in their respective area the Mohalla committees should get these Towers reinstalled in safe and protected places. The shifting of these towers in nearby police stations and safe Government protected premises or nearby to security bunkers could also help in reviving the mobile connectivity”, the meeting said. The meeting also asked the mobile companies to don’t act as mute spectators but work in the direction to revive mobile telephony in the affected areas.

The meeting urged telecom minister to intervene and reinstate confidence among the owners of premises housing mobile towers besides reviving the communication through mobile phones.
