The Bold Voice of J&K

Cleanliness is everybody’s duty

Dear Editor,
Recall the words of our Prime Minister Modi who requested every individual or group who have been working for the clean and green earth to share their stories with our fellow brothers and sisters; For  those who haven’t done anything in this direction until now were also requested to clean a polluted area close to them and upload a picture of that paticular area before and after the cleanliness drive. An unsual but a bold step by Modi to galvinise the youth of the country on whose shoulder lies the future of India. To make this cleanliness movement even more successful he invited many great personalities from every walk of life to lend their hands for this grave movement. As a result of this, there is no denying that hereafter India witnessed many great peoeple from the Shenshah of bollywood to the god of cricket cleaning their locality in public and even more encouraging role was played by Shashi Tharoor who cleaned a beach in Kerala and tag pic that particualar beach with our PM mentioning the story of before and after cleanliness drive. There were also many organisations which came forward to support this movement  and I felt at that moment  that very soon I would be enjoying a better and clean India. What pricks my soul is that even after such a great initiative-  Are we really serious about this Cleanliness Campaign?
I do see people talking about Swacch Bharat Abhiyan but their action is just the contrary to what they speak which is matter of great shame. Even in our city the story has been same until now with a very bleak hope of bright future for clean and green Jammu. I don’t know what is wrong with administration and why they are so helpless and lethargic. The condition of our market and other public places specially the bus stand and railway station is pathetic. These places are disorderly deserted with trashes everywhere and foul smell lingers in the air. I wonder how the concerned administration can blind fold their eyes on such menace? The poor drainage system is yet another loophole in the beauty of our city a fine example of which is clearly visible at the Jewel Chowk  to all the passersby. There is no need to tell that how these issues are going to result in a hazardous phenomena but we the responsible citizen keep our mouth closed because this is not a personal issue but general. This is the weakest point where we kill our
ourself by being personal. Environmental issues need to be tackled collectively as the other issue of caste ,religion and region is very small before it.We can make our city look beautiful if we seriously take some easy but very effective step like every shopkeeper must keep a dustbin infront of their shop and guard the corridor if someone is littering. Morevoer, we all know that how the climate is changing every year which is a direct result of environmental pollution. So,I must say lets contribute what little we can to make our city clean either practically lending our hands or by motivating people around us. But always remember action speaks louder than words.
