Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu has presented a innovative and passenger-friendly Budget. However, the success of ‘clean my coach’ is hard to visualise due to passenger congestion and a dearth of cleaning staff.
While Prabhu has made promises, he has failed to find resources for it. The idea of starting a fully unreserved super-fast long distance train is fraught with dangerous consequences. As the situation stands today, a couple of unreserved bogeys are attached to long-distance trains which are packed the moment the carriage doors open. One often sees a posse of armed constables deployed on the platform to control the melee.
