Dear Editor,
The thought behind the ‘Swachh Bharath’ campaign is truly commendable. But it is not just the lack of civic sense but rather the lack of a proper garbage collection and disposal system even in the metropolitan cities that is responsible for the mess you see everywhere. Garbage is often dumped by the roadside because landfills and dumping yards are insufficient. Recycling has to be encouraged on a large scale and administrative reforms ushered in to develop a more efficient door-to-door garbage collection system if we are really to bring about a change.
