JAMMU: Accusing the Central Government of giving “undue benefits” to corporate houses and “crushing” the labour class, the activists of Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) on Thursday held a protest in Jammu.
Led by the President of CITU State unit, M.Y Tarigami, the activists took out a protest march from Gandhi Nagar to Divisional Commissioner’s Office and handed over a memorandum of demands.
“By amending the labour laws, the Central Government is giving undue benefits to the corporate houses and the mill owners, crushing the labour class. The need of the hour is to strengthen the existing labour laws but the government is weakening them by bringing amendments to it,” Tarigami said.
We will continue to protest any move which is against the welfare of the labour class, he added.
The CITU also demanded that the honorarium of the need-based workers which has not been paid for the last several months, should be released and a minimum wage of Rs 15,000 be fixed for them.
The CPI-M’s labour wing also demanded extension of social security benefits to the construction workers in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
Representatives of the following unions also spoke on this occasion Ramesh Chand of NZIEA, Sunita Bhagat, ASHA Workers Union Jammu, Kailash Nayak, Railway and Unloading workers Union, H.D Bhomik, Industrial Estate Workers Union, Ashok Kumar, Hindustan Cocacola Workers, Baba Ram, Bhawan Nirman Union Jammu and Jia Lal Parihar, Vice President National Coordination of NHPC Employees Unions.
