LEH: A review meeting of Cooperative Department was held under the chairmanship of Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjey here at council secretariat on Friday.
Executive Coucillor (EC) Works Dorjey Mutup, EC Animal Husbandry Mumtaz Hussain, EC CAPD Tsering Sandup, Hemant Kumar Sharma Secretary to Government Cooperatives Department, Er. Bilal Ahmed Bhat Managing Director JAKFED, Anil Gupta Senior Manager JAKFED, M. Kunzang ADC Leh, Sonam Nurboo Deputy Registrar Cooperatives and staff of Cooperatives Department, Leh were
present.
The meeting focused on strengthening the registered cooperative societies in Leh district and to explore marketing avenues for surplus agricultural produces outside Ladakh.
Dorjey stressed on the need to produce finished products from Leh with large scale packaging facility made available under the DRDO in Leh for seabuckthorn, pulses, etc to ensure value addition of these products and direct benefit to local growers. He urged the SGCD, Bhat to look in the issue to increase tonnage quota in army flight during winters and possibility of evolving funds for different cooperative societies.
He suggested for an apex cooperative body equipped with packaging facility in which primary societies will be shareholders to ensure value addition and economic growth in Ladakh. He instructed concern authority to regulate collection of seabuckthorn in collaboration with wildlife department in Leh to avoid damage to the plants and unauthorized business.
