Chemists call off strike

JAMMU: Jammu Chemist Association called off its strike with immediate effect on Saturday afternoon after the assurance given by Deputy Chief Minister for independent enquiry on tendering of shops in hospitals.
Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh on Saturday convened a meeting of representatives of Jammu Kashmir Chemists Association, Jammu, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chamber of Retailers Federation in presence of Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat and discussed the issues related to Chemists of Jammu Province who were on strike. In the meeting issues of striking Chemists were discussed in detail and later with the intervention of Dy CM consensus evolved with the assurance from Health Minister that all genuine demands would be looked in to and settled in time bound manner.
“Dy CM has assured an independent enquiry on the tendering of the Chemist shops inside the hospital and report will be submitted within 15 days,” said Naveen Bali, President Jammu Chemist Association.
“On the assurance of Dy CM, we have called of our strike from immediate effect. But if the report doesn’t come within the timeframe, we will go on indefinite strike,” he added.
The delegation submitted memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister seeking his intervention in the matter to roll back decision of government in allotting 57 medical shops to a Delhi based firm Sanyog Enterprises.
The Deputy CM and Health Minister gave patient hearing to the delegation led by CCI President Rakesh Gupta and President Jammu Chemist Association Naveen Bali. They assured that enquiry will be conducted in this matter and requested pharma traders to open their shops so that the sufferings of the people will be resolved.
