‘Central Anand Marriage Act not applicable to JK’
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: The government on Tuesday said the Central Anand Marriage Act, 1909 does not extend to the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Choudhary Zulfkar Ali informed this on behalf of Minister for Law and Justice, while replying to a question by Charanjeet Singh in the Upper House.
The Minister said the State has its own legislation by the name and style of Jammu and Kashmir Anand Marriage Act, Samvat, 2011. The Central Legislation cannot be made applicable in the state as it has its own legislation on the subject, he added.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Abdul Haq Khan, Zulfkar also laid a copy of Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Ordinance, 2016 on the table of the House.
