JAMMU: Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI), Jammu expressed resentment against the statement given by Finance Minister Hasseb A Drabu that the State of J and K shall not adopt the GST regime which was recently passed by the Union Government.
CCI President Rakesh Gupta, in a statement issued here on Thursday, said the Chamber feels that such statement being issued by the Finance Minister unilaterally speaks of his high headedness. The chamber also feels that the present government of J and K is working as a dictatorship and not as a democracy.
“The taxes in the form of irrational VAT, service tax which are already on the higher side comparing Pan India are already burning issues against which the chamber is already agitating against the government,” he added
The chamber warned the Finance Minister not to come out with the excuses of special status but try to understand the problems of the trade and industry.
“It may not be out of place to mention that till recently the Finance Minister of J and K was heading the Empowered Committee and making such statements shall only deface the image of J and K across India. The chamber has already warned the government that if their genuine pre-budget demands do not meet justice, the chamber may adopt the course of total non cooperation and ask the business community not to pay any kind of taxes to the State Government soon,” he said.
Gupta cautioned the government to adopt positive track and arrange a meeting with CCI so that the matters are amicably solved before it is too late.
