JAMMU: In a meeting of the office bearers of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCI), President Arun Gupta paid heartfelt homage to J&K Police braveheart Constable Amjad Ali Khan, who laid down his life for the nation during an anti-terrorist operation in Majalata area of Udhampur district.
Remembering the supreme sacrifice, Arun Gupta said that the nation will always remain indebted to those valiant personnel who sacrifice their lives while combating terrorism to ensure the security and safety of the country.
The CCI President also expressed high appreciation for the proactive action being taken by the J&K Police against drug peddlers in the region. He lauded the efforts of the police in cracking down on the drug menace and acknowledged their commitment to protecting society from this growing threat.
However, Arun Gupta voiced serious concern over the alarming rise in drug abuse in Jammu, particularly among the younger generation. He warned that increasing drug consumption is destroying the careers and futures of youth, while simultaneously pushing their families into immense social stigma and hardship, often making them victims in the eyes of society. He stressed that drug abuse has emerged as a grave social challenge requiring immediate and sustained attention.
To effectively curb this menace, Arun Gupta emphasized the urgent need to identify and apprehend the kingpins and main suppliers who are orchestrating the drug trade. He said that unless the roots of the network are dismantled, isolated actions will not yield lasting results.
The CCI President also highlighted the worsening traffic congestion and chaos across Jammu city, especially at major crossings, which is severely affecting daily commuters and office-goers. He pointed out that traffic lights installed under the Intelligent Traffic Management System are lying non-functional at several locations, further aggravating the situation.
He urged the traffic authorities to immediately repair and activate all non-functional traffic lights to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance commuter safety.
The meeting was attended by Senior Vice President Anil Gupta, Junior Vice President Rajeev Gupta, Secretary General Manish Gupta, Secretary Rajesh Gupta, and Treasurer Rajesh Gupta.
