JAMMU: Condemning the NIT incident, Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI) said that the issue was not handled timely and in a proper manner.
President CCI Rakesh Gupta along with the other office bearers Arun Gupta Secretary General, Deepak Aggarwal Vice President and Ashu Gupta Treasurer interacted with Dy. Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh in a meeting which was also attended by Minister for Industries, Chander Parkash Ganga and President State BJP chief, Sat Sharma, here.
The Chamber President expressed displeasure over the use of excessive force by the police on the unarmed students that too inside the NIT campus and demanded permanent post of CRPF inside the campus as the local police had lost their credibility after their unjust action.
Expressing serious concern as no action had yet been taken against the section of faculty and anti-national elements who added fuel to the fire, chamber demanded that the open FIR against the non-local students be withdrawn immediately.
Conveying that chamber had not taken any adverse steps that would have added to the problems as peace was imperative for the overall development of the State, Rakesh said at the same time the chamber won’t be a mute spectator if such incidents re-occur that would endanger the lives of the students of our State studying in the other states across India and disturb peace in the State as that would hit the economy.
Earlier, Dy CM apprised the chamber team about the initiatives taken by the State and the Central Government about the demands raised by the students that included security, faculty issues and issues pertaining to HRD Ministry.
The Dy CM assured that effective steps have been taken and it shall be insured that disruptive forces are dealt with a firm hand.
