CBI arrests CHO Jammu red-handed while accepting Rs 10 lakh bribe

JAMMU: Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu was arrested by Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) while receiving Rs 10 lakh bribe to resolve departmental issues, including a favourable posting and promotion of a junior colleague.
The role of a senior JKAS in the Jammu and Kashmir government, is also under the scanner of CBI.
The shocking demand of bribe by a senior officer to be considered for posting and promotion prompted an official to approach the CBI with a complaint, they said.

“A case was registered on complaint against the accused and others on the allegations of demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakh for the complainant’s posting and to resolve his departmental issues including promotion,” a CBI spokesperson said.
After doing necessary verification and groundwork, the CBI laid an trap and arrested the CHO Sarabjit Singh, resident of Model Town Gangyal, and middleman Gohar Ahmed Dar, resident of Channi Himmat red-handed. “Searches were conducted at the premises of both the accused and the premises of the Special Secretary Farooq Ahmed Dar. During the searches, cash amounting to Rs 3.5 lakh (approx)and other documents including movable/immovable property were recovered,” the CBI spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, both the accused were produced before the court. The CHO Jammu has been sent on Judicial remand till April 20 while the tout Gohar Ahmed Dar has been sent on police remand till April 11, 2023. More arrests are likely to be made during the further investigations.
